Publicité
The inaugural African Open Government Conference commenced in Rabat, with Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, underscoring the event's significance as a watershed moment for Africa's governance landscape. Seghrouchni emphasized that the conference seeks to fortify the foundations of open government, fostering a culture of transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centric governance. She noted that Morocco's approach to open governance, as envisioned by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, prioritizes citizen needs and participation, thereby enhancing institutional efficacy and trust between citizens and the state. Rachid Talbi Alami, Speaker of the Lower House, highlighted the crucial role of parliamentary engagement in promoting openness, transparency, and citizen involvement, aligning with the principles of the Open Government Partnership (OGP). French Minister Delegate Éléonore Caroit praised Morocco's progress since joining the OGP in 2018, particularly in expanding access to information and driving digital transformation. Aidan Eyakuze, OGP Executive Director, observed that Africa is increasingly at the forefront of the global open government movement, driven by growing institutional maturity and trust. The three-day conference, themed 'Towards an Open Africa,' convenes officials, institutions, and civil society representatives from across the continent to exchange experiences, showcase reforms, and promote inclusive governance practices, ultimately reinforcing open government as a catalyst for transparency, accountability, and improved public services.
