Under Tanger Med Passenger's official Marhaba 2026 traffic plan, access to the passenger port is restricted to travellers holding a ticket confirmed for their scheduled date and departure time.

A confirmed crossing before the drive north

The message matters because the return journey can be highly concentrated over just a few days.

Rather than driving to the port and expecting to switch freely to another sailing, passengers are being asked to secure their crossing in advance and travel according to the booking they hold.

Tanger Med's passenger information also advises travellers heading to Algeciras to arrive two hours before departure. Those travelling to Motril, Barcelona, Sète, Marseille or Genoa should allow five hours for port formalities.

Late August is expected to be the pressure point

Tanger Med's official forecast shows why the port is emphasizing advance planning.

A cluster of departure dates in the second half of August is classified as high or very high traffic, with several days between August 19 and August 29 appearing in the highest category.

That period traditionally coincides with the large return wave as members of the Moroccan diaspora head back to work and school across Europe.

The confirmed-ticket principle is not appearing in isolation. Tanger Med has progressively encouraged passengers during previous Marhaba campaigns to arrive with confirmed return bookings during peak periods.

In 2024, more than 1.7 million passengers passed through Tanger Med during the summer campaign, illustrating the scale of the operation and the logistical challenge of moving large numbers of people and vehicles through a single gateway.

For 2026, the emphasis is increasingly on predicting demand before vehicles reach the terminal.
