Morocco and France Pledge to Enhance Cultural Ties

In a gesture of warm welcome, Morocco's Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, received his French counterpart, Catherine Pégard, in Rabat, as she embarked on her inaugural overseas visit. Bensaid expressed his aspiration for the discussions to yield concrete partnerships that would propel the cultural sector forward. He underscored the potential for French expertise to be leveraged in domains such as cinema, underscoring that subsequent exchanges would be instrumental in encouraging Moroccan cultural entrepreneurs to expand their global footprint. The bilateral cultural partnership encompasses a broad spectrum of fields, including gaming, publishing, cinema, and archaeology, with Bensaid emphasizing the need for a heightened focus on fostering collaborative initiatives that would bolster the cultural industry. Pégard, the French Minister of Culture, expressed her profound delight at attending the International Book Fair (SIEL) in Rabat, where France assumed the role of guest of honor. She articulated her commitment to contributing to the implementation of an enhanced partnership between the two nations. Noting the reciprocal gestures of goodwill, Pégard highlighted that Morocco had been the guest of honor at the Paris Book Festival the preceding year, and that Morocco was poised to assume a similar role at the 15th edition of the Art History Festival in Fontainebleau. This confluence of events, she suggested, was poised to unlock novel avenues for cultural collaboration and the strengthening of bilateral bonds. The 31st edition of the International Book Fair, scheduled to take place from May 1-10, will feature an extensive program comprising 125 activities and engagements with 15 esteemed writers, with France assuming the mantle of guest of honor.
